Trinity Church
Here, across the street, you see an earlier version of the ecclesiastical Gothic-style in wood, not stone. This is the fifth house of worship of Trinity Episcopal Church, built in 1854 and rebuilt in nearly identical fashion in 1862 after a storm sent the spire crashing through the building’s roof.
The second time around, the building committee of the church took matters into their own hands, rebuilding the steeple wlth heavily reinforced timbers. By the way, another of architect John Nash’s church steeples a few miles away at Greenfield Hill also flew down in a storm. Old church worshipers beware!
