Connecticut Bank Mill River Branch

227 Main Street

Across the street, at 227 Main Street, now a private residence, stands the Connecticut Bank Mill River Branch.  It was built in 1833 in the Greek Revival-style, brick with white wooden columns.  As you continue your walk up the tree lined avenue of Main Street, you can sense the changing scale of the village.  At first, the houses are relatively compact and front almost directly on the sidewalk.  Up a few hundred feet, the setback opens up and the houses, now greatly expanded in scale, are set down on spacious grounds far removed from the street.  We have reached the suburban villas of the village.
