Southport Savings Bank
Walk now up Main Street past the two brick apartment houses, formerly commercial buildings, and on your left stop at People’s Bank, the home of the old Southport Savings Bank. This red brick Italianate building was erected in 1863 to house the village’s second bank. This savings bank building still functions as a banking facility. The tellers still work behind the original wrought iron cage. The safe is still in its place. The founders’ portraits in sepia still look sternly from the boardroom walls.
