Main Street and Harbor Road
With your back toward the water, look now to the right of the Perry homes where you can see survivors of a later period in Southport history. Grouped around this chief intersection in town, where Main Street joins Harbor Road, are commercial buildings built of brick in the 1880s and ‘90s. Turn off the tape and proceed to that intersection. Substantially remodeled, these buildings still evoke the changing scale of commercial development in the town, a development that reached an abrupt end around 1900, as construction moved away from the waterfront and out toward the railroad and trolley line.
