Southport Harbor Coal Sheds, 1905
Southport, Connecticut, the village of the town of Fairfield, is a day’s sail up Long Island Sound from New York City. Totally different in scale, population and building types from the city, Southport shares a common bond with the metropolis because of its maritime history. From Southport, like many other ports up and down the Atlantic coast, farmers sent their produce for trade with the city’s manufactured goods.
